Boonie (or brimmed hat) is a hat model for military use, designed after WWII. The brim of the hat provides shelter from the sun and rain and as a result the hat is also practical for example when boating or on the shooting range. In the forest it also somewhat protects against branches. When it comes to the design of the hat, it breaks up the outlines of the natural human figure, but only slightly when compared to a field cap. Woven loops above the brim have been specifically designed for adding leaves and branches. The hat is as such well suited to as the base for a ghillie hat! Boonies are almost always provided with a drawstring.
The brim of the USMC hat is wide according to the manufacturer, but compared to those seen in airsoft use, it is normal-sized or even slightly smaller. At the front there is a USMC logo, and in the upper part of the hat there are ventilation holes. There is no heat shield delivered with the USMC boonie.

Information about Sizes
Helikon reports the headwear sizes in centimeters and as letter and inch sizes corresponding to them. The centimeter measurements show the diameter of the headwear itself, not the optimal size of the person’s head. It is recommended to choose a headwear which is a centimeter or two bigger than your head so it won’t be too tight.
